What would the IMDB score be, if this was a Hollywood film? (guesses)

I think it'd be around 7.4

reply

I think it would be around 6.

reply

I would give it a range of 4 - 6

It would be dumbed-down and loaded up with special interest statements.

btw, your English is bad enough that it is believable that you may work as a screenwriter in Hollyoood.

reply

My English is better than your Greek, moron, not everyone in the world is British or American.

reply

It'd depend on the cast.

Probably 7.5-8. Decaying over time.

I don't know, but if it was Ghibli or Pixar animation it would be 9,9...
Or directed by Nolan.

Which Ghibli or Pixar movie is rated a 9 on here?

Come at the king, you best not miss.

Point being that Ghibli/Pixar seem to get a place in top 250 almost regardless of how good/bad they are. If they were actually as good as "de sus ojos" surely they would be rated at least a 9,5 at IMDB...

In other words I think most of Ghibli/Pixar animations are overrated by a mile. Yes the animations are pretty-ish but the stories are often rather mediocre, for kids. The problem is that only fanboys rate them, while the rest mostly don't watch them; most grown ups do not watch animated films. It's sort of same as with Indian films, only people from India rate them and they get incredibly high ratings at least from a point of view of a western cinephile.

You think "Up" is a 9. Talking dogs fighting aboard a zeppelin. Seriously?
"Toy Story" a 9? No way mister. Well at least you didn't rate them 10 as many do...

I totally agree with this person...

First of all, you have to learn to deal with "opinions". Secondly, those movies are critically acclaimed, as well as box office successes. How are fanboys responsible for this? Nothing in the world has enough fanboys to give movies Oscars, box office success and critical acclaim, so you have to come to terms that the movies might actually be pretty good.

Finally, you can take a look at "Cars 2" and other movies to understand that other movies are not lauded "just because they are Pixar or Ghibli".

Thanks but I'll pass Cars 2 and I don't see how seeing that single title is important. It's not like I haven't seen top animated films at IMDB... I've currently seen pretty much all top 250 films (missing two). As for respecting opinions it works both ways.

And yes, I think Pixar and Ghibli are way overrated. How many in total are there in imdb top 250 currently...
I don't think any of them are better than say Disney's Fantasia (1940) or Alice in Wonderland (1951)... not better story, more creative and definitely not better animation.

IMDB should have separate list for animated titles... from current ones on the list none (apart perhaps from Wall-E), are worthy of a place in the list, imo.

Also, the fact is that newer titles are overrated at IMDB because of the voting system and voting habits. One might perhaps argue that new films have better cinematography because of advancements in the field but I don't think the same applies to hand drawn animation really.
