What Kick Ass should have been

Having seen both films in the last few days, I was devastated at how Kick Ass turned out, so when I saw this, with it's dark ending, constant realism and great, well developed characters, it made me think, how did Kick Ass fail at it all, why go for the easy ways out, the one note characters, the surreal action that culminates not in a mix of reality and over the top nature, but just pure OTT?

Well done to this film, funny, interesting, well made.

Signa...? No, we use Chip and PIN now.

You do realize Kick Ass is supposed to be that way, right? Not saying either is better, but that was the point of Kick Ass.

Kick-Ass is based on a comic book and it's supposed to be over the top.

Actually, Mark Millar claims in just about every interview that K.A. is the first comic movie set in "real life". So by his own statements, it's not supposed to be over-the-top.

Watchmen had the same problem. Few realized that the characters didn't have superpowers, because of the stylized and OTT the fight scenes.

It has a 12-year-old girl slicing off limbs and swearing. That's not over the top?
