Woody was phenomenal, but....

Where's all the critical recognition!?

I'm a huge film buff. I'm majoring in video production and minoring in film. One of my favorite things to do is make Oscar predictions and kind of my own list. I've seen most movies worth seeing in 2010, and Harrelson is a Top 10 male lead performance of the year to me.

Does anyone else agree, have good reasons why he is or isn't? I'm curious as to why he's not on any watchlist.

Top 10 maybe... on the Golden Globes. Since they have two categories for lead actors he may've had a chance in the Comedy/Musical department (since it's so ample). Other minor awards would be plausible for him too.

In the oscars... not so much. At least with all the heavy weights you have to account for, he would be up against major competition with so little slots.

His role in this film was the only thing that kept me going until the end. He really carried it. Still I would imagine the voters' other choices, apart from the obvious (say GG lead drama noms), to be made of actors like DiCaprio in Inception and Shutter Island, Bardem in Biutiful, Jeff Bridges in True Grit, Robert Duvall in Get Low, Aaron Eckhart in Rabbit Hole, Paul Giamatti in Barney's Version, Kevin Spacey in Casino Jack and then down the line he could be side by side with Ben Stiller in Greenberg, John C. Reilly in Cyrus or Kevin Kline in The Extra Man...

I remarked 11 actor performances, wich counting with the most probable Oscar candidates from the Golden Globes, makes 16. So a top 10 for him would be hard to fit into.

Thinking about Woody Harrelson's character in Defendor and his unrecognition in it (ironicaly this movie's poster screams otherwise) makes me think of another actor in another film wich coincidentaly also has applause and recognition in it's poster. Buried.
