Really Good movie but bad advertising.

I didn't expect much when i saw that it was a comedy film from the ads. But actually watching it, it has NO comedic power apart from some light jokes between the characters.
This is predominately a Drama film and a fairly good one at that. I was very surprised as how well paced it was and how well you got to enjoy the characters of the film, specifically Arther.

There is some good acting in this, especially from Woody Harrelson. Im not an avid watcher of his films but he has really shown some good theater skills this film.

Australian Ads have a tenancy to over-exaggerate Media.

Yes, it was advertised the same way in Canada. That's a very annoying trend. The same thing happened with No Man's Land, which was a very good drama, but was also advertised as a wacky comedy. I think it turns people off and they'll enjoy the movie less because it's not what they were expecting.

I think this is the major reason, more people haven't seen this, or have given it less credit than it deserves. They see it listed as a comedy, they see a picture of a goofy looking guy in a goofy costume, and they assume it's going to be another "Mystery Men".

That's kind of what I was expecting too. But then when you actually watch it, it's very deep and emotional, and succeeds at drama better than most dramas. There aren't even any unintentionally parts. I mean maybe a line or two might be a sarcastic comment, but if you examine it for what it's supposed to be, it actually comes off quite realistic. The only "comedy" in this movie is "DURHUR the tard sed sumthin funny HURHUR". Which, if you actually GET it, is more character development, and sad than it is funny.

Arthur isn't a "loser superhero" like in Kick-Ass, Mystery Men or The Specials. He's a realistic delusional man, only trying to do what's right without a real understanding of the implications of his actions.

Of course it's kind of hard to sell that, cause how do you advertise this to the same demographic as "I am Sam". Except, THOSE are the people who should be watchign this, not the people wanting to see Mystery Men or Kick-Ass.

Totally disagree. This was a terrible movie with clever advertising. Take a good look at the poster and all the glowing reviews used as quotes in the back. You will notice that quite a few of them are reapeating the same quote several times. This movie was made for under 4 million dollars and returned 36million. Good investment. Mediocre movie.

I don't think you understand the point I was trying to make. The poster is a perfect example of how the movie was poorly advertised. The quote "Funny as hell" appears amongst al lthe quotes. I doubt that person even saw this movie. It's barely funny at all, let alone, "as hell". It's not a comedy. That being said, when someone sees this movie expecting the what the poster delivers, of course they are going to be dissapointed. If a movie promising "funny as hell" does not deliver "funny as hell", then it is considered bad, or at least bad advertising.

I'm guessing you thought it was mediocre, because you viewed it as a comedy, which in fact was not very funny? Imagine if they would have marketed "The Dark Knight" as a comedy, by posting a trailer using the few funny lines from the movie with some silly music behind it? You can find fan made trailers like this on youtube. For instance, there's a romantic comedy version of The Shining. If the movie were actually promoted that way, people would be disgusted when they saw it because it wasn't marketed to the right audience.

That being said, I can't really think of how to actually market this movie to make people want to see it.
