Young Arhur and his mom (POTENTIAL SPOILERS)

When she is saying goodbye, she was obviously emotional as if she knew she'd never see him again. Anyone have any idea if she knew it because she was choosing to abandon him or was she being taken or what? Just wondering if I missed something...

She obviously wasn't taken. Her boyfriend, and probably fellow addict, calls her several times because they "have to go".

She's crying because she knows she can't be a mother to him. She's a junkie. She loves him but she knows the best thing for him is to leave.
