I can't believe how boring this was
Huge fan of Scorsese. Taxi Driver is one of my all time favorite films. But The Irishman was... boring.

shareThe film relies a lot on the viewer being familiar with the era in which it takes place. If one wasn't alive then, or at least have a knowledge and curiosity of this period of American history, then I could see how the film would be uninteresting.
Just watched this movie for the first time last night.
Huge fan of De Niro, Scorsese, Pesci, mob movies in general, and to a lesser extent Pacino. Taxi Driver, Goodfellas, and Casino are among my all-time favorite films. I was expecting a compelling movie, given the story and subject matter.
God DAMN was The Irishman a chore to sit through! The pacing was wretched, and many scenes which should have had the viewer hooked were staged and presented so badly as to try your patience to it's breaking point. And the dialogue was often so poorly written that I had difficulty following the minutiae of what was going on at times.
With Goodfellas and even Casino, the plot was always presented in a clear, concise fashion that propelled the narrative forward at a crisp, brisk pace. The Irishman failed utterly there. I get that perhaps Scorsese was deliberately going for a different angle, presumably for the sake of not rehashing his earlier work, and probably because the story is being told by Sheeran while he is in his twilight years and reflecting on his life, so he lacks the angry vigor that Henry Hill exhibits in *his* narration in Goodfellas, but in the process he failed to reel me in.
Well acted and beautifully shot though.
