The 3 problems with the ‘3 Body Problem’
While I wouldn’t say that I didn’t enjoy the show, in fact, I am eagerly looking forward to the next season, however, I feel there were 3 major problems that ruined the overall experience for many, including myself. Spoiler alert!
1. The plot disappointment (unmet expectations)
The title (and earlier trailers) suggested that it was going to be some kind of mind-bending science fiction TV series connected to the original three-body-problem which scientists have been unable to solve through centuries. However, as it turns out, it’s about the oft-repeated, much-filmed, much-beaten topic of alien invasion – only with a different flavor.
2. Hollywood wokeism (in your face)
While I am all for gender equality, representation of marginalized communities, black lives, interracial marriages, etc., but these should not be thrown into your face in a TV show. It really looks unrealistic when you deliberately include Chinese, Indians, blacks, top scientists as women, then more Chinese, and LGBTQ, people of color at top positions, and more Chinese, and all what ought to be there, instead of all what actually is there.
3. The big plot hole (like a black hole)
So, the all-knowing and the all-powerful aliens have access to everything on our planet, so much so that they can control what we see. And they want to destroy us. So, what’s the point in playing this cat and mouse game? They are hiring a sniper to assassinate a scientist when they can very easily blow up the whole building where he lives. They had access to all our knowledge archives for 50 years, but they didn’t know that humans can lie and deceive? And while it’s bad to lie, it’s OK to kill? And many such things.
Overall … 6/10
