Life's a b!tch...

and then you die...

what a powerful ending to one of the greatest t.v. shows i have ever had the pleasure of watching...

not all stories have a "happy ending", and if this is the finale of Southland, i will always remember that closing shot of John Cooper lying there on the ground dying, and the cops who shot him yelling, "Stay with us John!"...

wow!

A bad cop (Ben) may get away with the crap he pulled.
A good cop (John) is highly likely dead.
That is reality. Bleak but very real.
This (was?) one of the greatest series I have ever seen.

These are my exact sentiments! The good guys don't usually come up ahead in real life..the bad guys..the opportunistic and arrogant guys get what they want and the guy who risks his life time and time again, without wanting anything in return usually gets the short end of the life stick at the end.

A very good post. It's a shame that so many posters are crying their dissatisfaction.

I guess you get it, or your don't.

Yes, I actually enjoyed this episode. If it is the series finale then I would be mostly OK with it. I just wonder how upset those (complaining about this episode) would be if they didn't wrap up any of these story lines. People will find just about anything to complain about. At least they tried a little bit to wind up the series. And I liked the fact they brought Russel back - in the earlier seasons it was pretty obvious that Lydia was in love with him.

It also kind of reminded me of the ending of the series Life where they weren't sure if they were coming back for a 3rd season (they didn't come back). They wrapped things up as best they could but there were so many things left hanging. But at least they tried.

It felt very much like a series finale for me. If I have any problem with it, it's that I want another season of Southland, but that episode makes me feel like that really shouldn't happen. It felt like the end of the story, to me. Another thread's subject line refers to a cliffhanger, but, that episode didn't feel at all like a cliffhanger to me. It felt like the end.

OMGosh! funny you should mention that great series Life...

do you remember that Michael Cudlitz made an appearance in that show, too?
he was only in 3 episodes, but, man!, what powerful appearances they were!!

another great show that was XLD too soon...

Yes, I definitely remembered that MC was in a few eps of Life - actually I still watch the show every once in a while on DVD.

MC was also in a show (Standoff) with another Band of Brothers alum, Ron Livingston. That show was also cancelled during what I liked to call the Band of Brothers curse. For a while it seemed that if any of the BoB actors were main characters on a show it would only last 2 seasons or less before getting the axe.
