I'm a big fan of The Shield and The Wire and I've been meaning to watch this series. I heard it was cancelled though which sucks since it seemed to be pretty good. But before I watch it, does it have a good resolution that doesn't leave much hanging?
The straight answer is it does not have an ending.
But the final episode's closing did (and does) have fans talking about it. And the more I think about it, it feels like the only way to end a show like this. It's happened before: character's life hangs in the balance, credits roll, and there he/she is ready to roll in the next episode. It's there for us to accept. And it's not hard to. No spoon-feeding.
But this is the greatest cop show I've ever seen, so I do wholeheartedly urge you to give it a shot. I'm pretty sure you won't be pissed about how this show goes out.
Episodes are filmed about 3 months before broadcast. Probably written 2 months before that. TNT doesn't have a clue if there will be a 6th season. They have to be ready for continuing or canceling. I believe the writers did a hell of a job, because it could have continued or ended.. There was a sense of closure in the "Southland" way. Life goes on!
That's too bad. I was way behind on this show and finally caught up. I knew it was over, but I thought it was pretty popular and didn't realize it had been canceled. I was expecting a real ending. :(
