CANCELLED?
They hit a high point and boom- done! WTF are they outta their' Ghad-am minds?

I have NEVER watched Honey Boo Boo and don't understand how that crap is on TV! And I'm from Georgia and it's embarrassing to know that is on.
It seems like it's always good shows like Southland that are cancelled before they wear their welcome out.
The dumbing down of America. You don't want quality, thought provoking entertainment, just a little dancing loud mouth fat kid. I don't mean to talk about a child like that, but kids should have a chance to be kids, not being paraded around in heavy makeup.

NBC & TNT just didn't promote this great show enough or too many viewers would rather be dumbed down by the Kardashians ...The Wives of something or or other or any other voyour like TV shows.
Southland ..with it's story lines...realife characters in the streets & wonderful actors should be brought back!
Southland was expensive to produce though. Shooting on location isn't cheap. While I was initially annoyed at TNT, I have to be grateful they even gave four additional seasons. Could they have done more to promote this show? Absolutely? Should they have done more to promote this show? Without a doubt. But saving it from cancellation death and letting it live to season five is still way better than anything NBC ever did for this show, so I'm just happy it got to live beyond S1.
Couldn't you do something less drastic than sleeping with her? Couldn't you just kill her?
I'm with you dude. I just found out from reading Wikipedia that this show was canceled. I always looked forward to it being just around the corner. Man, what a way to go.
shareThe worst enemy of dramas remains all the creepy attention whore wives, friends, mistresses, etc. of network execs (Julie Chen springs to mind), who demand their spouses build talk or reality shows around them. Talk and reality shows are cheap to produce, so scripted dramas are an endangered species. It's so infuriating. I would rather eat ground glass than watch Honey Boo Boo, who should have been exposed at birth, along with the rest of her disgusting family; I feel the same way about all those Whores of Wherever, etc.
Put puppy mills out of business: never buy dogs from pet shops!
Great comments. Agree with the ones ripping trashy, vacuous TV.
Shame. Great show with incredible depth of humanity. And, it honors people who are in arguably some of the toughest but also some of the most important work in the country.
What an incredibly good and raw program. Shame it was cancelled. Truly great.
Apologies for adding to this thread so late, but I've just finished catching up on the last episode of Season 5...only to find out that it's the last ever episode ever!
I'm shocked that TNT would cancel a show as real and gritty as this. Without doubt the finest show I've watched since Band of Brothers, and not just Cudlitz stars in both.
I have never seen a cop drama that hits as close to the mark as Southland...yes there are the usual dramatic add-ons, but the content and feel almost always made me feel like I was on shift

Agreed. Such a good show. And really solid all the way through, even when it was on NBC... Which is rare. The episode towards the end of the last season where the cops get abducted was seriously intense, and really great television. It reminded me of the episode in six feet under when David gets abducted. First-rate TV.
I hate that everything good in our culture is underfunded, unpopular and underfunded, while all the ridiculously low-brow garbage, which actively makes you a worse human being for having watched it, is celebrated and repackaged ad infinitum.
HBO is the last refuge of the intelligent mind.
I think thats the reason, to get people stupit, thats the only reason it see to cancel one of the best cop shows i have ever seen, and let the ridiculously low-brow garbage get a new season and then more and more.
shareI had to come on this site to find out it was cancelled. That's such a shame...just when I was really getting into it. I looked forward to seeing it every week. The storylines was raw and realistic. TV shows these days focus too much on trash tv, reality shows and the like. If it was on a major network and/or got more advertising, IMO it would've gotten more notoriety and popularity.
It would be great if they had a petition going to bring it back...at least for a few more seasons. It deserved that much.
Oh well, another great show pulled off the air. Shame on TNT.
Even an episode or two to tie up some loose ends would be preferable to what we got. Now we just speculate . . . :(
shareI didn't want to come here for fear of finding out for sure. DAMN!! Great production, great writing, great acting. Now we can look forward to listings of one "reality" (yeah, sure) show after another. Will we ever get to see a show the quality of Southland again?
shareAmazing show. Simply amazing from start to finish. Maybe they should consider the possibility of a tv movie to give some closure of the characters. So many things unresolved in the series finale. what a pity!
