Blackbeard's magical powers

So when is it explained about Blackbeard's Magic? Did i miss that bit? How can he control rigging, move his ship where he wants by pointing and have zombie crew? I read on the movie web page about the sword and all but I totally missed that bit on the movie.

Also the mermaids kiss to the clergyman at the end of the film. What happened to him? My take on it is that she kills him, as that is her nature as a mermaid and his wounds would have killed him anyway.

I don't think they did explain it, you just get to watch him doing it.

The mermaid thing was discussed here:

It was all so vague and undefined... They really should've had some backstory like they did with Davy Jones.

If they said Blackbeard had a magic sword given to him from a Pirate Demon that allows him to be the ultimate Captain and control his own ship and pollute the minds of those onboard (zombies) then that would be okay.

But then they said the sword also controlled the Black Pearl and turned it against Barbossa? That bit bothered me.

The sword is not bound to the Ann's Revenge (or what Blackbeard's ship was called). He can control the rigging of other ships. Probably any ropes anywhere.
Wasn't there a scene in the jungle?

The origin of the sword may be unknown, but I never had any interest to know where it comes from anyway. Unimportant for the story.
Maybe from the same person Jack got his compass from, that woman with the many magical stuff in her hut.
The one who was Calypso.

Phillip was dying and so Syrena took him to the bottom of the ocean in order to end his suffering (like how the mermaids deal with sailors), and in some romantic way, him being at the bottom of the ocean means they'll be together forever.
