Aspect ratio?

I am reading conflicting reports with regards to Wake Wood's aspect ratio. A lot of sites peg it at 2.35:1 (or 2.39:1), but I noticed it looked stretched horizontally at that size. I put it on zoom on my HDTV, which approximated a 1:78 ratio, and it looked more correct without cropping much information (basically a sliver on the edges). I also found a couple reviews that claim their disc was indeed at 1.78:1. Is the Blu-ray stretched? This is the Dark Sky release in Region 1.

I compared to the trailer, which was 1.78:1 and had more information at the top and bottom of the frame, so my guess is it was shot that way and cropped later. Doesn't explain the stretched shots, however. *shrug*
