Incredibly Moving Film
But, many inconsistencies.
Tommy is a wrestling machine yet doesnt take anyone down and one-punch Tyson's everyone?
In an event as glorified as this someone would be able to google Tommy immediately upon his entry into the event and see he is indeed the son of trainer Paddy Conlan, and an extremely accomplished wrestler. It wouldve taken everyone a matter of mins to see past his last name of Riordan to see his true identity. We arent talking about 1990 here and no internet.
Frank Campana (Frank Grillo) is a man of honor and discipline yet directs Brendan to not tell Josh Rosenthal (the ref) that Tommy's arm is broken....why would he say such a thing? The fight would've been stopped had the ringside physician entered and Brendan would've won right here. But Mr. Man of Honor tells him to snap his other arm? This was the worst written line of dialogue in the film. It made no sense and was a character departure.
The UFC would never have a 16 man, 2 night event where guys are fighting all these matches in a row. Especially in NJ which has a very strict commission. It would never be regulated but I'm guessing they chose AC as the venue because Brendan lives in Philly and they could have his wife make the surprise 1 hour drive to watch the fights.
Other than the above, the movie was incredibly well done and the action was off the charts. Nolte and Hardy crushed it. Edgerton and Grillo were good as well. This movie had it all, and if you're arent an MMA fan or understand how the sport works you probably arent nit-picking any of these things like me.
