Final scene between Brendan and his dad

What is the significance behind the final look Brendan gives his dad, as he's pinning down Tommy? Was it more of a, "See I told you I had talent, I can even beat Tommy" look? or was it more like "do you see what I'm capable of, thanks for acknowledging me?" look?

I didnt look at it in either way. He was looking at his dad for approval "to close the show" i.e sink in the rear naked choke. The nod by Nick was him telling Brendan it was ok, do what you have to do.
