would anyone else have preferred a sequel to tmnt over this?

Im glad this movie exists and the turtles are still going but it is easily the worst in the series in my opinion. i rank them 1, 2, tmnt, 3 and then this one. I would have much rather gotten a sequel to tmnt anyone else feel the same?

reply

Absolutely.

I would rank TMNT above Turtles 2 (didn't like the monster plot in TMNT but the Raph and Leo feud was amazing) otherwise my rankings are the same as yours.

I would have much preferred to see a TMNT sequel, where The Turtles were still average teenager height ninjas and the foot clan were a clan of ninjas instead of mercs.

While I'm happy for those who enjoyed this movie, I found nothing in this movie spoke to the Turtles fan in me. TMNT did.

Not at all, TMNT's plot was too generic and the characters weren't utilized to my liking, especially since Leonardo was made into a big jerk. Thankfully, its been forgotten as its a very forgettable film and doesn't focus on them much as a team.

reply

Totally agree, I was bored with that half way through it and I HATED how they way they portrayed my boy Leo as a jerk.

A boat that floats on water can also sink in it.

reply

I would have. I thought TMNT was a good turtles film. Granted it fell short in really keeping with a "traditional" villain, and introduced this odd subplot. However, I think of all the TMNT films out there this was the best representation of Raph vs Leo. The fight scene between the two of them was something I was dying to see for a while.

The biggest thing is that they teased "Old enemies will return" at the end of the movie. Which got me REALLY excited to see The Shredder again.

Yes.

I will rank my Top 5 (theatrical) Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies...

#5: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III

#4: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2014)

#3: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2007)

#2: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze

#1: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

In all honesty, I think the 2007 TMNT movie would've worked better as (at least) the 2nd installment if that in itself would've been it's own trilogy.

1st movie would obviously include the origin story & Oroku Saki/Shredder as the main villain.

I thought there was going to be a sequel to TMNT. At least, it seemed like they were talking about one. A lot of people were pleasantly surprised with that film. I wish I knew why the interest died out so quickly...

A sequel to the movie was green lit.

The reason it didn't happen was because Imagi and Mirage couldn't agree on a direction.

Laird wanted a more mature tone while Imagi wanted more comedic. In the end they were deadlocked but even after they'd pretty much given up on reaching a compromise Imagi were still trying to come up with a plot (presumably in hopes Laird would change his mind) up until he made a deal for a live action movie with Light Box..which sounded good a Batman Begins true to the comics approach but sadly ended up with Platinum Dunes which gave us last years insult.

One thing I've found interesting is that the '07 movie sold quite a lot of merchandise in comparison to the '14 movie. Considering that a large defense of the Platinum Dunes movie was that it was a "kids movie" (even though I don't think it was made as such) I've always taken this is that the kids that liked TMNT '14 didn't like it enough.

reply

Maybe that's the drawback of trying to make these kinds of movies so dark and adult: kids won't like it enough to move the merchandise.

reply

Yes, but Hollywood decided some time ago that pointless reboots are more profitable than pointless sequels so this is what we get.

Whether it's a sequel, a prequel, a reboot or a remake is irrelevant: if Micael Bay does it then it's gonna suck.
