2nd viewing. Still rubbish! *Spoilers*
Gave this another shot again. Wish I hadn't bothered now.
The whole film just didn't feel right.
For a start Splinter came off as quite a cruel bastard who to me looked like he enjoyed beating up his kids. When he got the *beep* kicked out of him I couldn't have cared less, in fact I was actually quite happy to see the old *beep* take a kicking. It certainly wasn't the splinter I had grown to know over the years.
Sacks was a pathetically thin money minded bad guy who couldn't stop saying his own rather poorly chosen name and The Shredder as hardly in it apart from a few action scenes. And if I'm meant to believe that Sacks who is about n his mid 40s was raised by Shredder that would make him at least in his 60's and he can move like that? Don't buy it.
The less aid about Megan "Sammiches" Fox the better. At no point did I buy her as April O' Neil and throwing a yellow Jacket on to a fap model doesn't automatically make a character.
The film had a really weird look to it as well which just wasn't appealing (was it winter or summer becasue the seasons seemed to change from scene to scene) and seemed to jump from part to part really messily. Michael Bay might not have directed but his grubby paw prints are all over it and some of the shots look and camera angle choices seem identical to what he would do.
Credit where credit is due though, I thought the Turtles themselves were really good. I like their individuality and how they all look a bit different now. The only thing I don't like is their faces which look like someone has taken normal person and taped their nose back giving them that pig look.
The sequel 'looks' promising and I'd love to see these turtles in the hands of a good director with a solid story but as it is they are in Transformerland and that's never a good place to be.
Turtles 1990 is still the best live action film to date which is a real testament to it's quality but is also kind of shocking.
