I think the better question is, "Why would Eric clip the barbed wire to open what was wrapped up?" I probably wouldn't want to cut open something wired shut like that anyway, but those dead animals hung in the basement would definitely kill any curiousity I might have had.
shareI will admit I would totally want to open the package like he did but I certainly wouldn't read out loud the words and I ABSOLUTELY wouldn't do a pencil pressing to get the words AND also read them. That was the most ridiculous part. Couldn't take the rest of the movie seriously after that even though the movie tried damn hard to act serious itself

Did everyone ignored that before he opens the book there're voices whispering things such as "open it" and "read it" in the background? I'm sure that he was attracted and manipulated by the supernatural force from the book.

Right. It's human curiosity to try it and see what happens. Especially with supernatural stuff. Like we've just got to know if there are mysterious forces out there that we don't know about. And there's always someone willing to risk their life to find out.
Maybe that's why kids love to dare each other to do dangerous sounding stuff, like saying 'Bloody Mary' into a mirror. And they do it, even though they've just been promised she will immediately come slaughter them if they do.
