A Rama rip-off?
I haven't watched this but I just read the synopsis and it seems very much like the show has taken large elements from Arthur C Clarkes Rama universe.
Anyone familiar enough with both to comment?

Other than the very general idea of ”humans on an alien spaceship”, the two have nothing else in common. The contexts, the premises, the plots and the characters are all vastly different.
SGU is clearly and originally anchored in its distinct Stargate lore. If there were another strikingly similar universe (no pun intended) to draw parallels with, that would be Battlestar Galactica.
But not with Rama, no - nothing of the kind.
I'd love to see a series of films - or a TV show - based on Rama, though.

I think Freeman have given up on that project. These days it would not be difficult to make up almost any environment. If they can do the entire sanctuary episode in a room they can do anything. If a particular scene is impossible to depict as real life they can always do it as someone watching it on a monitor with sprites to represent the action rather than real world events. Lots of movies cheat like that in areas which require vast amount of resources.
