Many years down the line.will they pull a David Lynch and bring it back?

If Twin Peaks can come back after 25 years there is hope for this show yet.

I would say at this point syfy is probably willing Givin there relaunch so to speak but the hard part is mgm which is currently rebooting the Stargate movie with Rowland Emmerich.

reply

Maybe syfy would, but its brand is far too tarnished from pervious years' activities for any proper network-supported show, including SGU. I know syfy had had some change of leadership a couple years back (or less), but it won't be easy for them.

I'm rather vying for Netflix to be the venue to consider, but not some of their Internet-based competition. Maybe YouTube in the future, if they decide to produce a real tv show.

btw, Brian J. Smith is starring in Netflix's science fiction action-adventure show "Sense8", produced by the Wachowskis. Sense8 has been renewed for Season 2.

As far as I understand, the state of Stargete movies is in a flux. Reason for this is, that Roland Emmerich is busy with "Independence Day: Resurgence", with a sequel in the works. Stargate production is to follow that. An unrelated Emmerich movie might also be in the works, but that's speculation.

Another issue is, that the stars of SGU are working on other projects: Notably, Robert Carlyle is on "Once Upon A Time", Ming-Na on "Agents of Shield" (yes, I know it has dots all around), Brian J. Smith is on "Sense8".

SGU was a spin-off of a spin-off of a spin-off, while Twin Peaks was an "original" story. I wouldn't use that as a comparison.

Plans are in the works for Stargate - the original (from 1994) - to return in the form of a movie reboot+trilogy. So, in that sense, yes, it is almost exactly like Twin Peaks, only as a movie series instead of television series.

It will have been 25-ish years since the original when they revive it.

Although, despite their claims that it will return in a few years or so, I suspect it won't actually return until 2020 or later.

Would be kind of cool to see Eli as a forty-something on the Destiny though, I always imagined the cast would have been culled down to a select few due to some stasis falure or something, probably likely...

Culled... did the Wraith find the Destiny crew? 

Ha ha, that would be weird....

Well at least the final episode ended so that all characters can still return for a new season and anything is possible for a new direction of the show.

I loved the ending even though we are wondering what will happen. Do they live, die or ever make it back to earth?....

Such a great show. My favorite Sci Fi show by far SGU.

... End of line.

There are a few differences here, but the main one is that Twin Peaks was/is actually popular.

reply

I think the difference between Twin Peaks and SGU is first and foremost popularity. SGU was cancelled - as I understand - because of bad ratings, and that makes a return most unlikely.

They could, however, consider using some of the great characters from SGU (i.e. Rush, Young, Scott, and Greer) in a new spin-off show. It would require, of course, that all of the actors were available and also willing to resume their roles.

Right now I think most of them are engaged elsewhere.
