Just half way through on Netflix and this show is spectacular.
It makes SG1 and SGA look like children's cartoons in comparison.
It's dark and gritty and realistic and the characters are a million times more interesting.
And this is coming from a long time fan of SG1.
Why on earth did it get cancelled after just one season when SG1 and SGA were allowed to continue until the quality declined so much that I wanted them off the air.
Well some people blame it on the time-slot it was aired. Some people think it was just too different for the fanbase to enjoy. Regardless, great sci-fi shows get cancelled all of the time. For example: Star Trek, Firefly, and Farscape. The general audience just doesn't care for hardcore sci-fi.
shareI don't know exactly why SGU was cancelled after only two seasons, and I agree that great sci-fi shows get cancelled all the time.
But they took Farscape too far IMO. The first seasons were GREAT, but the last one was rather silly, as far as I remember.
As for SGU I would've loved at least one more season to round things up a bit more.
Some did care for the drastic change from the campiness of SG-1 and Atlantis. Also, a few people thought it was similar to Battlestar Galactica and Star Trek Voyager.
