Premise was dumb to begin with. All strangers yet once they got on the elevator they go something like, "OMG you listen to podcasting killing too?" before some random murder happens then they decide to be wannabe detectives by interfering in crime scenes. Let me guess, after solving this case, another murder in the hotel? After the 3rd one then what? Police just going to keep coming back and think nothing of it? By the 3rd murder they'd be shutting that place down if no getting everyone out from there until they can find out what's going on.

I've been told by a few people that it's great. So far I only watched episode 1 and thought "MEH". Does it change at all in later episodes?

There's a 1920s building in downtown Los Angeles called the Hotel Cecil. It has been the site of numerous murders and mysterious deaths over the decades. It's still open.

That's quite a list. I think a senior retirement housing would have more deaths though. :P
