Andrew Garfield overacting?

I'm not bashing Andrew's performance entirely. He's a good actor. But there were moments throughout the film where he was definitely overacting. For example, when he froze the account, and him and Mark were arguing over the phone, he said something along the lines of, "I know it was childish, but I had to get your attention!" He added so much unneeded emotion into such a simple moment of dialogue.

Am I the only one who noticed this?

reply

Him getting angry seemed childish. Total man child.

I noticed but I was OK with it.

They were all still kids at the time, wrestling with huge ideas and giant-sized dreams.

As someone who's worked in the tech sector, venture fundraising in particular, I can sympathize with the kind of frantic, over-the-top panic that can result when you think someone's trampling all over your dreams.

I felt the same way about it. Even though I certainly noticed his overacting, it didn't bother me to the extent of not being able to find his character believable, and from enjoying the overall movie. I guess it's one of the only exceptions where I found overacting tolerable. Usually, I'm not a big fan of overacting at all.

reply

I agree, I also noticed it but didn't give it too much importance.
They were going for "Mark the robot vs Edoardo the human", so I think that's the reason for his overacting.

reply

he seems like the same character in every movie

reply

lol...yeah, kinda.

reply

oh I thought this was on the lead character, but i guess it applies with him too

reply

Wait, so you thought I was talking about Jesse Eisenberg??

If so, the same thing pretty much applies to him as well. He seems to play the same character in every movie.

reply

yeah I he did overact a little

reply

SOOOORY MY PRADA'S AT THE CLEANERS!

I thought he was great in this movie.

reply

He was great. Don't get me wrong. But he still overacted.

reply

Yes, but good overacting. Who the hell wants to see a realistic movie about the creation of Facebook, that would be boring as hell.

reply

True. I enjoyed the movie.

reply

HE SEEMED TO BE DOING A GOOD JOB TO ME.

reply

He’s okay but does have a couple of moments where he overplayed it, I found. An adequate but undistinguished performance.

He is excellent in both Boy A and 99 Homes so he is clearly a talented actor.

reply

I'm definitely not saying that he's a bad actor. In fact I found his character in The Social Network quite memorable. But I still think he overacted at times.

reply

Yes, I agree.
