No Light Kit?

When they make these movies, do they simply not have the budget for a standard light kit so that they can light scenes correctly? So much of it is dark, with the colors shifted to red because of the lack of light when they're shooting.

It does take place at night, so I guess they wanted to give the audience a sense of the confusion and creepiness that the characters were going through. I could usually follow what was going on, though. I didn't think they overdid it.

Maybe it was the settings on monitor that helped.
