I don't understand all the negative reviews

People need to understand that it is just a movie. There have been a couple of things on the forums that I am actually amazed people are having a tantrum over.

1. Christian bashing: Really didn't think it was that bad. People are acting like this “stereotype” does not exist. When I was in high school, I told a group of girls I didn't believe in god. They then told me I was going to hell and ignored me for months. At the end of high school they were literally the biggest sluts, completely contradicting everything they use to judge others for. In saying this, obviously not all Christians are like this, but it seriously is not unrealistic. I also asked some of my Christian friends whether they were offended by anything in this movie and NOPE…NOTHING.

2. Twat: did even know that was a swear word or offensive. I (ignorantly) also thought it meant stupid or idiot. From what I have read it means female genitals…still don’t find it offensive.

3. Unrealistic: You can’t be serious right? The characters don’t look like teenagers? Most movies and even TV shows have older actors portraying younger characters. Look at Vampire diaries, looks like a bunch of mid-twenties early thirties crashing high school.

Rumors and the fact that no one would care that much about someone’s sex life, yeah sure I could agree, but then there would be no story.

It’s amazing how people can’t just sit down and enjoy a movie anymore, nowadays we have to pick at everything. It’s just a movie, I really don’t think it’s meant to be taken so literally.

Ha! You should have thought of that before you became peasants.

If you try to understand trolls and morons, you'll waste a whole lot of life. Some people just have a different opinion, some people just have nothing better to do with their time than go online and bait others into a fight.

1. Christian bashing

Well the martyr thing is definitely Christian. And instead of saying "there are a few people like that but they don't represent us" and telling the a-holes in question to shuck the *beep* up because they make all Christians look bad, they just whine and bitch on movie forums (and to their friends) that Hollywood hates them.

2. Twat

That there are actually several threads debating that word and its use is mind-boggling to me.

3. Unrealistic

I guess they watch too much "reality" tv and they didn't get this wasn't a documentary?

Rumors and the fact that no one would care that much about someone’s sex life, yeah sure I could agree, but then there would be no story.

Nobody "cares" about her sex life. The Christians use it to feel superior to her and they spread the story that she's a slut, which of course gets the guys attention because they think she'll be easy to sleep with (never hurts) and gets girls jealous or bitter. Nobody is truly shocked about her having lost her virginity.

The only time I consistently see negative reviews for good movies is on IMDb boards. Other than that, this film was well received by normal people nationwide.

IMDb trolls are childish, and should be ignored.

Yes, it really didn't get a lot of poor mainstream reviews. It was much more frequently lauded.

I liked the movie. It was charming, funny and had a likeable protagonist. It was well above my expectations and much funnier than most US comedies I have seen.

It was not anti-Christian. It was anti 'fundamentalist Christian' which is a different thing.

The ultra-cool liberal patents were slightly annoying, but I forgive that since they were funny. Also, it showed that the protagonist's problems were not caused by her parents (for once) but by her culture and environment.

The word twat is a mildly offensive insult (I actually thought the said twit) meaning an idiot. Among friends it would be banter, but it could be taken badly by someone who you don't know very well.

In he UK, it would not be regarded as a really offensive swear word. But neither is it acceptable to use it aggressively in a public area as the protagonist did. In saying that, thought the teacher's reaction was quite strong. But I assumed that in the movie, the Americans thought that it was more offensive than it actually is.

Just try using the word 'fanny' in Britain, and you get a whole knew meaning compared to that in the US. Just as the word 'fag' is not offensive in the UK. (As it means a cigarette butt(.
