The dialogue was way too smooth
One of my biggest pet peeves in movies. I want to hear people pause and occasional stutter when they talk to other people. All of the lines are delivered way too perfectly, reminds me of M*A*S*H.

shareI really get what you're saying, and sometimes I would agree with you - that the overly smoothly written and spoken dialogue kind of ruins my experience of the film.
In 'Easy A' though, I was perfectly happy just going along with the pseudo-reality that the slick dialogue created. It reminded me a lot of ye olde 'What's up, doc?' with Ryan O'Neill and Barbara Streisand. Fast, impossible and most definately improbable dialogue, delivered WAY to smooth, but madly entertaining nonetheless.
Agreed, I think the slick dialogue was one of the best aspects of the film and it actually helped pull me in to the film, as opposed to me finding it distracting or unrealistic. I think that was 100% done on purpose. The writer and director clearly weren't going for a super realistic portrayal of high school students talking to one another. I thought it was a perfect fit for the film and more importantly, a perfect fit for the main character, who was definitely operating at a higher maturity level than most of her peers. All in all, the dialogue was one of my favorite aspects of the film.
Still Shooting With Film!
I know exactly what you mean. That's why I loved (and still love) "Parenthood" that much. They have scenes in which are 8 or more people around a table and the camera lingers on the 2 or 3 who have a conversation, but everyone else is talking to other people as well. Like a normal conversation in a family should be. The other actors don't just sit there quietly (and awkwardly) and be silent. I love that. A lot of people have said though that they dislike that people are talking at the same time and sometimes you cannot understand every sentence, but that's real life. People won't let you finish a sentence, people will stutter sometimes or a sentence won't make perfect sense. "Parenthood" got a lot of backlash because they portrayed conversations realistically. Usually, movies and tv shows are just toooo smooth!
"Life is like a movie. Only you can't pick your genre."
It's not, at any point, sold as a documentary or reality tv. When is the last time you saw a movie where people stuttered their way through dialogs and have you been watching too many movies with Channing Tatum lately or something?
