My theory was that it was a big deal that she lost it because she was so attractive but guys maybe found her unapproachable because she was sort of cold and aloof and stuck to herself. So when they realized she was sleeping with guys it was unexpected and they felt like they had a chance? Idk.

But she seemed to- for whatever reason- be unpopular so maybe thats not the case. No people wouldn't have cared probably, at my high school it didn't really matter unless you had slept with like 10+ people... and my senior class was 25, so I mean... 10 was like the majority of the boys in the grade..... But I think it became a big deal with her only when she a) slept with the guy everyone thought was gay and b) started "soliciting sex for money".

This was a throwback to 80's movies. They always cast older actors as highschool students. Not sure if it was intentional but it totally fit.

There are plenty of people who are 18+ years old who are virgins. Howeve, even with that being true, like you said, it wouldn't be such a big deal.
