Mr. Gluck, what you made was the most insanely idiotic things I have..

ever witnessed. At no point in this movie's random incoherent plot structure was it even close to anything that could be considered a rational film. Everyone who has watched this is now dumber to have experienced it. I award you no stars, and may god have mercy on your soul.

It's hard to explain why this movie deserves such a quote because it seems kinda good..."We need to pray for her, but we also need to get her the hell outta here." Pretty classic lines and the movie wraps up kinda nice, but what the hell reality were this people living in!? Why is a 22 year old going to high school? What the hell was with the teacher and guidance consular? Why the hell do so many adults know and concern themselves with H.S drama? What the hell was with her befriending amanda bynes? Why are there people protesting a person at school like its the 1950's? No one seems to care that this girl is getting bullied like shes a nazi!

It's called being left back. It happens when you're as dumb as bricks or never show up for class. The guy in this movie is the former, and he keeps trying to pass so he's still there.

What the hell was with the teacher and guidance consular?
The English teacher and guidance councilor were married, but the GC felt that her husband wasn't paying enough attention to her, so she cheated on him with someone she felt was giving her the attention she needed.

Why the hell do so many adults know and concern themselves with H.S drama?
Seeing as the only adults that are shown in the movie are either parents or people that work in the school, it's their job to concern themselves with such matters.

What the hell was with her befriending amanda bynes?
At that point in the film, Olive didn't have any friends, and she didn't hate her, it's more that she really didn't agree with her views. However, Olive is a nice person and thus helped comfort her, even though she wasn't overly fond of her. This made Bynes' character very happy, feeling that she was helping Olive absolve her sinful ways, so she got all buddy-buddy with her. Having no other friends, Olive went with it.

Why are there people protesting a person at school like its the 1950's?
Because they're high schoolers, they're going to do dumb things like that. Hell, in my high school some students got together and were protesting bottled water.

No one seems to care that this girl is getting bullied like shes a nazi!
She wasn't being bullied per say, people just thought she was a slut because she and others were spreading the stories that she was messing around with a bunch of guys (not to mention dressing up like a high class hooker), and thus some started treating her as such. What got to Olive was that her best friend didn't believe her, the religious fanatics were harping on her for being a sinner, and one guy 'bought' her services because he actually thought that she was selling herself. Everyone else was just gossiping about what she was allegedly doing.

I cant believe you answered this....

Its called being held back....
Four YEARS? no this doesnt happen...anywhere....ever. they give up on you after 19 and send you to ged classes.

Give her the attention she needed....
He seemed very into her in the begining but she pulled away. The last scene we see of them is her (kudrow) staring at him (church) while he is on the computer watching her video...yep that clears it up for me

Only there job to concern themselves with such matters....
Maybe in butt f&#k iowa but in any real community, the parents are oblivious...

I don't think that they kick you out at 19, seeing as seniors are 17-18. Hell, there was a guy in my graduating class who was 20-21, so a 22 year old still going at it is believable.

Pretty sure the English teacher said something along the lines of eating alone/not having any sex for quite some time since his wife no longer wanted to pay much attention to him - she now had someone else. Kudrow said something about the new guy being a very good listener, so we can deduce that her problem with her husband was that he wasn't a good listener, even though he did seem to want to pay attention to her. The last scene we see the two of them in, the teacher had just found out the details of his wife cheating on him. He's broken by this and clearly doesn't want to speak to his wife (as Olive pointed out, Kudrow's infidelity destroyed their marriage).

Ojai, California *is* a small community where pretty much everyone knows everyone, therefore by extension everyone pretty much knows what's going on with everyone. And it's not a community thing if the parents are oblivious, it's a parenting thing.

I realize that today in the US being "educated" by going to "school" is considered elitist and wrong. Loving the "poorly educated" is a great way to succeed if you are a carnival owner or hedge fund person.

(I always wonder how that plays when you get sick or need legal advice, but I digress.)

HOWEVER, YOU might have someone read "The Scarlet Letter" to you and then you MAY understand this film.

Uh, on second thought, probably not.

Never mind.
