Social Media joke

Was it just me that thought the joke the 'likeable' teacher made about students Facebook status' was super creepy? The only way he would be able to see "every one putting everything up on Facebook" would be if he were friends with them. I get that it was supposed to be some social commentary about people sharing too much of their lives online, but as the teacher surely he shouldn't be interacting with them online in a way that would allow him to see "everything" anyway.

Don't Facebook and schools have a special social page where students and faculty can share on a common page?

I seem to remember my nephew (graduated 2 years ago) and my niece (grad this year) talking about things their teachers put up on the Facebook.

Dated joke. Back then you could see everything by everybody that posted anything. Friends or not. It might have been you didn't even have to have a log in (account) to see stuff. My Space was the same.

Only later were there settings to select who can see what.

Ephemeron.
