I'm always confused about when Olive tells Rhi that she met the guy who goes to college with my brother. Does she have an older brother that her family just never talks about? Or is this just a hole in the script?

shareI never noticed that no one else in her family talks about the supposed older brother who's off at college. I just took Olive at her word that she did in fact have an older brother off at college. Kind of like the one true thing in an otherwise false story.
As far as being a hole in the script, if she really doesn't have a brother, we could just assume the whole thing was made up, not just what we know is made up (the date with George).

As I understand it, Stanley Tucci's character is not her biological dad, which is why he and the mother adopted a son together. There was a line that I vaguely remember where the mom says "I dated a guy once who.."
(and I forget the actual line, but it was probably hilarious) and Olive replies "Please tell me you didn't marry and have children with him." So I assumed by children, she meant herself and the older brother she mentioned to Rhi.
Nooo. She says she dated a guy who was gay for a really long time and Olive thought she was trying to set up telling her the guy was her father. She was hoping that her mother wasn't telling her that her father is really gay. Tucci is both her and her brothers real father. The younger boy is the only one who is adopted.
shareAlso, they say they adopted him because basically one or more of them couldn't have any children any longer. Something about their insides not doing what they were supposed to.
shareOhhh. That was the line that made me think that they couldn't have children together (which would mean it's the mother's second marriage) but I guess it makes sense if they couldn't have anymore after those two.
