O-k, I['m a bit older than the target audience, but I found her dance routine to be in rather questionable taste for a high school performance. It emphasizes sexuality and I don't think high school is the appropriate outlet for this sort of thing. I'm not trying to be a prude but for all the messages this movie may be trying to put across, suddenly having this sexy dance performance from the put-upon protagonist just seems to send the wrong one. Hey everybody, look at me, I'm all about being sexy. Plus her announcement how she may have sex within the next hour, or six or whenever, just seems at odds with what I consider normal, modest behavior from what seems to be a smart young woman. Generally the movie was entertaining and pleasant, but when I take it seriously, I have some problems.

The two main points of the end dance were to intrigue the audience to watch her tell-all truth vlog, and give her an awesome musical number for no apparent reason (like "an '80s John Hughes movie").
Her comment alluding to 'watching her do a woodchuck' is further evidence of getting vlog viewers.

Seeing as the vlog is the narrative, I'm sure this can be "considered normal" for Olive at the time.

Thanks for the response. I'm a little on the older side, so I'm sure there are aspects I simply don't get, but Emma Stone is fun to watch and I liked the whole premise and presentation of the film. Like you say, like a John Hughes film. It's just the end that didn't fit for me, but just a smallish quibble. Thanks again for weighing in.

It's a stretch alright! (And I was in the target demographic at the time!).
I guess with these films we just have to suspend reality - a lot - and enjoy the fun? :-P
