Second, what was with Pryce's call? Imagined? Real? Just another surreal layer?
It was Mel pretending to be Pryce in order to get Don to leave so that he could kidnap him without her knowing about it.

Wow, I would not have figured that, but it makes sense.
Did he ever fess up to this? I would imagine Don thought he was going crazy.
He couldn't figure out what had happened to the body and it scared him. When Mel called him, he knew that someone knew what he had done and could destroy his life. I'm fairly certain he was sane, and realized someone was on to him.
