I personally loved the whackiness of the movie, but I was wondering about him sending letters to Sunny's house, too. I know (SPOILERS) fake Sunny told him "her" parents died in the house from carbon monoxide poisoning, but my question is, where are the real parents of Sunny? Unless they did die as Joanne explained to Don and that was true, and she learned that when she bought the house. It's conceivable that Sunny's parents really died as stated and Joanne moved in not long after Don left. And she received the letters and the rest of the film played out like it did, but that still leaves the window of time when Sunny's parents were living there and receiving the letters. Unless they died before the first letter was sent and Joanne moved in and received them. But again, sending them to the house where you know the dead girl's parents live would have been weird and sorta cruel on Don's part.
And again still weird to keep sending them because he had to know either Sunny's parents would still be there receiving them or someone else would be. My thinking is that Don realized the latter and felt that as long as the person receiving them now wasn't replying back saying to stop, he would keep going. And when he got one from 'Sunny'/Joanne inviting him to come out, his interest was picqued because he knew the real Sunny was dead and wanted to see what was going on and who was pretending to be her.
