And I just started season 2. I don't want to look through the message boards because I don't want to see any spoilers, so I have no doubt this has been discussed, but I'm asking for patience and an explanation.

It's occurred to me that a lot of situations, where she doesn't know who people are, like, her husband, could have been made less awkward if she just said she suffered amnesia from the gun wound, like the secretary who blamed her forgetfulness on that several times.

So what did I miss?

I haven't watched it all yet, but sometimes she addresses this. She tells someone (I won't say who just so I don't spoil anything) that she doesn't like talking about it but there are some gaps in her memory. It kind of covers the truth, but also gives the show a way to have Jane/Deb experience some awkwardness as she figures out old relationships

I just finished and had the same thought throughout the show.
