Confirmed: the referees want Argentina to win.

The questionable penalty that Argentina was awarded is not surprising seeing how they were favouring Argentina the entire tournament. That penalty broke a record for most penalties awarded to one team in a single tournament. That's 5 penalties in 6 games.

FIFA wanted Portugal out by making 5! referees from Argentina officiate their game against Morocco. They are clearly anti-Ronaldo and pro-Messi.

reply

in the final they'll loose to France

reply

I hope. France isn't doing it for their country, they're doing it for the World. If Morocco makes the final, I hope they frustrate them and beat them in penalties to make it more heartbreaking.

reply

Good lord no, not Morocco. We won't be hearing the end of it here in Western Europe and they'll be trashing the place again. If it's those two, just let Argentina win the fakest and most forgettable WC of all time. Let's just hope they'll beat the crap out of Messi so he won't be able to make a goal.

reply

My heart shattered in a million pieces when I saw that. Couldn’t watch the second half of the game.

reply

Are you Dutch?

reply

Norway

reply

I wonder if FIFA would ever help Haaland in a future World Cup as much as they are with Messi.

reply

I’m not sure. Norway isn’t good enough anymore. We had our glory in the 90s.

reply

You never know. You guys have Haaland and could inspire 10 year olds and then become good in 8 years.

reply

I saw the ref was Argentinian, could not find evidence that the other 4 members were Argentinian.

reply

Not "the other". It was 5 of 8.

1 was South American and another one was Spanish. That's 7 of 8 Spanish speaking referees.

reply

Fair play that does seem dodgy.

reply

It’s already starting. 24 min in.

reply

I predicted a penalty before 20 mins. I was wrong. It happened in the 21st minute.

reply

It’s ridiculous

Like clockwork

reply

And Messi fans will say we're jealous for pointing out the obvious. I would not be surprised if there was some exposé in the future about how Qatar rigged the World Cup. They're actually in the middle of controversy with the EU.

reply

Unbelievable. Another one!

And it was the softest penalty you'll ever see given. No VAR check either... What's going on?

reply

France cheat though because they have more Africans playing than actual French people , it's debatable how much of a real Country they even are anymore.

Argentines doing it for Argentines

True patriots

reply

LOL. Yes, MacAllister that traditional Argentinian patriot played a great part for that second goal!

reply

His family were in the Irish town of Donabate since 1690, before a Joseph Mac Allister moved to Pergamino in 1865

I think 160 years and several generations just about qualify him

reply

Mbappe's mother is a white French woman is she not - Does he qualify as being "okay" then?

What's your cut off point - because it's obviously not simply about being racist - for being true countrymen? e.g. if Joseph MacAllister had taken his Scotch blood (yes!) to Argentina in 1965 instead say, would that be too late?

Please do let me know how many years are required to qualify as a "true patriot"...

reply

Yes if it was 1965 then he would be a Scot living in Argentina

It takes however long it takes to have the original cultures and customs of the adopted Country embedded into your psychology and nature, as a guess i would say at least 3 generations

reply

So mass migration of black Africans to France began around ~1800. Comfortably more than 3 generations ago. So these guys would be true French patriots right?

Or do you have some specific players in mind born in Africa who have been put in the French team?

reply

Read through the French national squad and you will see that most of them have duel Nationality

Look how many play under 21's then switch Countries, yeah pure Frenchmen

Great win for Argentina great team spirit fantastic camaraderie well deserved

reply

Don’t even try. It’s a waste of time. This one is just off.

reply

I know.

I was just enjoying exposing the hypocrisy of holding a such a steadfast, racist viewpoint in terms of what qualifies as being a national of a country. I actually knew MacAllister's background before naming him, as I knew where it would lead.

reply

You successfully made your point. Actually I think you are both very knowledgeable. I can’t get over the the number of racists on this board and Lucia, who I actually think is a guy, just feels there are “pure French” people - notwithstanding - the origins of Alexandre Dumas, Serge Gainsbourg, Mde. Curie, Charles Aznavour, Johnny Hallyday, even Belmondo, who are ALL French. He most likely has issues with his own provenance and is hanging on to his own muddled identity which seems to be just not black.

reply

[deleted]

And you are a true idiot. You know nothing about being French.

reply

Immigration FC

reply

Good point. Please stay where you are.

reply

What about the EU'S Sex Doll FC?

reply

Who are you?

reply

Racistina 🤡

reply

This is just too obvious. There was a penalty they got in a previous game that didn't get a VAR check either. It sucks that France played like crap because Argentina deserved to win, but they'll use France playing like crap to ignore all the calls that went Argentina's way the entire tournament.

reply

Zut alors!

Maybe we spoke too soon. Very soft penalty for the French aussi...

reply

If they called that first one for Argentina, then this one should be one. 100% penalty.

reply

But why would they? Because of some old Nazis in their Argentinian hideouts secretly controlling FIFA?

reply

"The President of PSG (who Messi plays for) is also the chairman of Qatar Sports Investments."

A bit meager as evidence. Mbappe also plays for PSG.

reply

From the link in my OP:

Hassan Al Thawadi, Secretary General of the World Cup Delivery and Legacy Committee, spoke with Télam (h/t Minuto Uno) and did not hide his genuine desire to see Messi lift the trophy for Argentina.

“Seeing Messi lift the trophy in what could be his last World Cup would be something really special for us as organizers."

reply

Now that was a true penalty. 79 min in. Bam. It’s Mbappé.

reply

100% penalty. Teams have to earn their penalties, Argentina just gets them.

reply

France. That’s how it’s done. Fair and square. Mbappé.

reply

3-2 now Fair and Square

reply

It should be 2-2. The first one was a joke.

reply

Cruel pen there beyond soft
