Why didn't Erik focus on disabling the sub? If he saw that he couldn't lift the sub out of the water, why didn't he just crush the propellers or fins? Heck, if he could hold on to the whole boat, couldn't he just tear off a panel to flood it?

I was watching this and DoFP again in preparation for Deadpool tonight and I couldn't help but wonder why Erik didn't think of that. Someone as smart as Magneto would've realised that right?

If you remember, he and Charles talked about finding that balance between peace and rage. Up until that time, Erik was all about rage. Rage/anger can make people unreasonable and do foolish things.
