Why did Shaw have a badly fitting medieval helmet designed for him?

... to block telepathy?

This question is both why the goofy design (a big medieval helmet with circuitry built into it to wear with his flamboyant suits???) and why was he expecting telepathic attacks?

I always figured it was that he wanted a helmet he could take off but allowed him to see and speak clearly with it on. And, it needed to be long enough to create a force all the way around his head so that a telepath couldn't enter from underneath.

And, why wasn't he expecting telepathic attacks? He knew Emma Frost was a telepath. Just because she was on his side doesn't mean she's the only one with that power.
