Revisiting the 2000 original - still good?

Dylan Spicer takes another look at the original 2000 X-Men ahead of Apocalypse:

How do you feel about it now? I, for one, think it has indeed dated but was still massively influential and a good watch.

It was a *beep* X-Men movie then, it remains a *beep* X-Men movie. They all pretty much suck. I look forward to the day someone does an X-Men movie justice.

WORDS MEAN THINGS! Also, before you come to bitch about a plot hole, rewatch the show/movie.

I remember watching that movie in 2000. Personally at the time I thought it was very average, though many fanboys who were exicted to just to have SOMETHING, ANYTHING from Marvel on the big screen at that time. All we had before that was Blade in 1998. The passage of time has not changed the average quality and bland cinemtagraphy of the film, but the aesthetics have ofcourse dated. Remember they didn't have a big budget to work with and they were sill very worried how the general audience would take "superheroes" since all we had before that was Batman and Superman on the big screen. It's why there are so many jokes about the characters names and wearing black suits instead of yellow spandex. At that time, there was a fear that superheroes beyond Supes and Bats would be just too stupid to be taken seriously on the big screen.

I have always loved the first Xmen and, aside from a few effects here and there, I think it holds up just fine and is still an enjoyable watch.

I am not a fan. I just happen to enjoy movies. Fans are embarrassing.
