Sebastian Shaw plot hole?

In the beginning we see Shaw as a very middle aged man. Later on he looks much younger. Now I know he says that his mutation gives him the ability to absorb energy which allows him to keep young. So when did he discover he was a mutant? In the beginning scenes with Shaw and the boy magneto, Shaw is a scientist working for the Nazis and he experiments on the boy magneto. There is no mention of him being a mutant or telling the boy magneto that he is a mutant too. So how did Shaw acquire his powers?

Maybe he simply kept his powers on the down-low during the Nazi era, thus he aged a bit during that time. later on, he was free to start doing more with his powers again. Just a thought. It's certainly not a plot hole by any stretch of the imagination.

I am not a fan. I just happen to enjoy movies. Fans are embarrassing.

He likely had his powers already, merely concealing them. The Nazis would be suspicious if one of their people somehow never aged, and more likely to respect and accept the wisdom and authority of an elderly 'herr doctor Schmidt' than a young one. He just kept his youth restoration to a minimum for that cover assignment.

I'm sure he enjoys looking young while running the Hellfire club more.

He had that nuclear room in First Class.

I interpreted as; Shaw/Schmidt knew he had the mutant genome but had yet tapped into how to control/advance/evolve it. He would use the Nazis and Mangele's science division to study mutants so that he can learn how to expand HIS OWN power. Erik was likely his finest case, and after taking him to the butcher shoppe, he learned the capabilities of his power. He likes abused it over and over until his age began reversing.
