PG = Lost Interest
Anyone else feel the same?
shareYes
Is it going to be pg13?
That’s a total buzzkill
PG... PG13... Same thing.
shareIts PG-13 with some off camera head chomping. Does venom do that in the comics? Eat peoples heads? And the film shows a sizable body count including characters we actually cared about and some mild body horror imagery.
shareYes. I was planning on seeing this on my birthday next saturday, but i'll wait for the home release and see something else instead. Should have been R rated.
shareNot really. I've never felt a movie was good simply because it was R-rated. This isn't going to be a comedy like Deadpool that requires risque humor. We all know if Venom was R-rated it would be for blood and gore. If all it is is blood and gore, then it's a waste of an opportunity. It needs something else going for it. As long as this movie has it, then it doesn't need the gore to work. It just has to be an entertaining story that's well-executed.
shareRated PG means middle of the road, show no blood, don't scare the children, dial-back the intensity and subdue the carnage. Its what makes so many movies mediocre...in trying to appeal to the widest possible audience, Hollywood ties directors' hands, limits the content of what could otherwise be a great movie and often miss the mark for their prime demographic in the process.
I agree with the, "Just has to be an entertaining story", but for a lot of adults, adult-oriented stories are what's most entertaining, especially when dealing with adult-oriented material.
I'm not sure where Venom falls on that scale, but I guess I'm just saying its more than just wanting more blood and gore or somehow thinking that a movie has to be rated-R to be good.
Honestly, it doesn't sound like you live in the US the way you're explaining it. Not a single MCU film has been PG-rated. They've all been PG-13, same as the Dark Knight. PG-13 can show blood and death, they just can't go overboard with it.
With Venom, however, we're talking about something a little different. It started as R-rated, but scenes were deleted to make it PG-13. That's always a bad omen. If it was planned from the beginning to be PG-13, then there are many avenues they can take by filming exactly what they know they can get away with in a PG-13 film, similar to what the Dark Knight did. But turning R-rated scenes into PG-13 rated scenes can be impossible, so they just end up getting cut.
Yeah, it's weird that people in this thread don't know the difference between PG and PG-13. There's a reason why PG-13 was created. Parents were upset that some family movies had faces melting off (Raiders of the Lost Arc) and people being torn apart by small creatures (Gremlins).
PG would be something like the Lego Movie or other flicks aimed exclusively at children.
Yea I remember that. I remember indiana jones and the temple of doom disturbing me at age 4 being that it was PG yet it showed some one getting his beating heart ripped out of his chest. These days rated G means kindergarden where as PG now days is what rated G was before 1984.
shareExactly. Jaws was rated PG back in the day, gave my 8 year old brother nightmares, had trouble going in the dang swimming pool lol
shareIt's true, Steven Spielberg was friends with Jack Valenti the head of the ratings board back then and after the angry reactions from parents seeing a man getting his heart ripped out in Temple of Doom, Steven pitched the PG-13 rating to Jack and the rest is history.
shareAt first it almost looks like we're disagreeing, but I'm with you on every point here, so...there ya go!
Yeah kind of, I'm still going to watch it but i lost a lot interest after hearing it would be pg13. I've always liked Venom and Carnage a lot a thought that if they ever made a movie about ether it should be a full Horror.

Same thing.
shareNot really. Kung-Fu Panda is PG and The Dark Knight is PG-13. There's a difference.
shareI don't see the difference.
shareThen you obviously haven't seen The Dark Knight. None of the violent scenes with Joker could be done in PG. Also PG-13 allows multiple uses of the SH word as well as one use of the F word. Then again like someone else said you might be from another country where they censor things too severally.
shareAlso nudity is allowed in PG-13. I am wondering if the OP is being obtuse on purpose.
shareI think you're forgetting the fact that The Dark Knight was marketed towards kids. Go to any kid's clothing stores and you'll see Batman stuff there.
If a movie has the letters "P" and "G" in it, it's for kids.
You're being stupid and unreasonable.
shareThey also marketed toys for Terminator, Robocop, and Conan and those movies were R rated.
Even modern R rated comic movies like Deadpool, Blade, and Logan had toy tie ins.
Aliens vs Predator was rated PG-13 as well as the movie tooth fairy. There was a period where PG-13 was successfully pushing into the borders of what used to be R rated territory. For what ever reason this film wasn't able to do that. There is plenty of head chomping and victim eating and deaths but no blood on screen. And they didn't try to blurr the body count like the recent RoboCop movie did (RoboCOP would try to make some shooting victims seem ambigous by not showing if they were hit with tasers bullets rubber bullets or real ones and no bodies were shown after that to confirm they were dead) This film on the other hand shows you recognizable bodies of characters to throw it in your face that these characters are in fact dead after they were attacked earlier. I was not aware that the film was initially targeting an R rating and always assumed it was targeting PG-13 which is why the film to me seemed a little harsher then the typical PG-13 film of this day and age (Not the PG-13 films of the early 2000s that would push into R territory) but not quit in to modern R territory considering the potential for the scenes to be explicitly bloody. Yea the body count seems to be about the same as R but the camera does cutaway when its implied some one is getting ripped apart or head eaten. I do remember one quick cut shot where venom bites a soldiers head off and spits it out so you see a roundish object quickly rolling off screen. The shot was so quick you didn't get to see any detail but you coulden't deny that it happened.
shareI stopped reading when you mention AvP in your long ass paragraph.
Nice job. 👍
I didn't like AvP FYI but if your not gonna read my post I have no reason to consider your troll response. Its like why bother responding to something you didn't even read.
shareYou did make a good point. Also I like both Aliens Vs. Predator movies by the way. I do wonder if this movie ends up being successful they might release an R rated version of it.
shareI think they should certainly release the R version as an Unrated disc. Of course they woulden't be able to annount the Unrated version till after the movie is out of the cinemas as that could potentioally hurt ticket sales.

Yeah, such a waste. This film was perfect for r rated. Someone like Tom Hardy should put a demand like that in his contract, other actors have done it. Lost respect for him.
shareThe movie would still probably suck with a R rating if it were to keep the same problems with the screenplay, production, performance, execution, etc. The movie rating isn't really the big problem there at all. A lot of PG-13 movies like The Dark Knight trilogy, pretty much the MCU, and Dunkirk have proven that to be a success. The problem just all come down to the execution from what I've gathered with a lot of reviews anyway. Perhaps the extra 40 minutes worth of movie Tom Hardy mentioned would've been that rumored R-rated cut. Who know? Hardy said he likes most of what actually got cut out of the final product. Or maybe that extra omitted minutes wouldn't add that much difference to the movie's quality anyhow.
shareExactly. Throwing a bunch of blood, boobs, and f-bombs at the camera will not make a movie better.
shareYou have to admit though when the camera cuts away from the blood or shys away from the profanity we'd all be saying if we saw something like venom chomping heads it takes away our suspension of disbelief the same way watching godzilla walk up to a calm nonchalant mathew broderick ruing that movie for us.
