Watch the original. This is not worth it.

reply

It has Jessica Chastain in it, that automatically makes it better than the original

reply

Chastain is great, but it doesn't mean this version is better.

reply

Chastain whored herself in Kathryn Bigelow's propaganda movie Zero Dark Thirty, that loveletter to the CIA. she is not worthy of your acclaim.

I have Criterion's Bergman boxset laying in wait so I will (re)watch the original very soon! To be fair: the idea of a remake of any film is a huge turn off for me these days. I tend to avoid them as much as I can.

Read an article that says the SON of BERGMAN is the one who wanted a REMAKE done.

So one also has to wonder why he thought that would be a good idea.

Because when you "REVERSE the ROLES" to where you have the FEMALE character being the BREAD WINNER and the one who BEATS UP the NARCISSISTIC MALE character, something also seems to GET LOST in the TRANSLATION of having done that.

Because the MALE character in the REMAKE is still also the MOST NARCISSISTIC character (which is also demonstrated by the LACK of INSIGHT he has into how he's married his 2nd wife for the same reason as he did his 1ST WIFE).

Remember how he explains how he and WIFE #2 were ROOMMATES, and then it just seemed like a good idea to GET MARRIED (even though he didn't really LOVE her that much or enough not to CHEAT on her and have several other affairs and one night stands)???

I'm pretty sure his FIRST WIFE also realized how that also describes her relationship with him as well (that they were also ROOMMATES and then got married after a DOCTOR treating him for the ASTHMA made the mistake of thinking they were already married).

In other words, he's NEVER REALLY LOVED either one of his wives, and was most likely also PROJECTING his own feelings onto them when he said that he'd never BEEN LOVED by anyone.

But when it's also the FEMALE character who says this (she felt she'd never been LOVED) in BERGMAN's story, that's also the reason why the REMAKE version of the story GETS LOST in the TRANSLATION of it (due to the attempt at the ROLE REVERSALS that take place in it).

Oh no. Joi2049 is back with her horrible scribblings

reply

Shouldn't do that.

This is not that bad. I started out with grudge against it because
it was trying to be too theatrical with the actors walking into the
scenes ...

I am not sure what that was supposed to prove or show.

But, the last episode where they just jab at each other out of some
robotic habit. I think it is worth watching, but still have not
determined if I like it or not, or if it has value.

It would be good to hear more of what you think about the
series. Chastain is an actress I admire more than like. She's
been in a ton of movies and usually does such a good job that
I set aside whatever animus I feel towards her.

And I was thinking Oscar Isaac is just in everything right now,
but he does a pretty good job with this, even though his character
is so pedestrian. Their interplay is thought-provoking.

For one thing I think Chasten does a fantastic job of portraying the
inner working of a woman in a way we have not seen before, that
I know of. Often in movies women are portrayed on the pedestal,
and she walks that line very uniquely ... or the writer or her part
does. Let's not forget the writers and directors.

Are brux and joi2049 the only ones here who work for HBOMAX?
