if they called it something else i'm sure it would be a hit. A new title would make it stand out in it's own right.
Sorry but even with Savage attached as an executive producer I think it's going to tank
I agree. I think the show looks just fine, and I'd give it a try if it weren't called 'The Wonder Years.' Just create a new IP about the coming of age story of a young black kid in the 60's, and I'd watch it.
When they take an already made, and already beloved IP, and race/gender swap the characters, it just comes off as cheap and lazy and... pathetically spiteful, quite frankly.
I have no interest in supporting that.

THAT IS NOT WHAT THIS IS...THIS IS A WHOLE NEW CAST OF CHARACTERS IN A DIFFERENT PART OF THE COUNTRY...ITS MORE A SPIN OFF,OR IN UNIVERSE SISTER SHOW ALA THE WALKING DEAD AND ITS VARIOUS INCARNATIONS.
OK, fair enough. This is actually the first I've even heard/seen about it, so I don't have a lot of knowledge.
But spin-offs, or "sister shows" (never actually heard that term before) usually have different titles, or at least slightly variant titles of the original. They also don't usually use the exact same theme music.
When you make a "new" show about the exact same subject matter, with the exact same title, and the exact same theme song, and the only difference is the race or gender of the characters, (and maybe the city/setting) it doesn't come off as a spin-off, or a new creation.
It comes off as a hijack of the original IP.
FAIR ENOUGH ON THE TITLE...I THINK I AGREE.
shareIF that's the case, why not have alterations to the title instead of a direct copy as if it were a remake/reboot? Walking Dead had Fear The Walking Dead and Walking Dead: The World Beyond. Instead this is a direct rip-off of the title itself imo.
shareYEAH...I CAN'T ARGUE WITH YOU THERE.
shareyes and star trek did "the next generation"....etc instead of exactly copying the title of the original series. It made it's own show.
Nobody paid attention to why it's had multiple spin offs.
dont expect originality from chronic complainers about appropriation.
shareLOL This has to be a joke!
shareIf Fred Savage is going to direct it, then it could be good. I'm excited!
shareif he were going to direct it he would not have wanted it directly copying HIS show which he had been the child star of and which DID run for multiple seasons. He would have titled it "Wonder Years: Social Change" or "Wonder Years: Transformation"
