The Rise and Fall of Janet Jackson

There is a lot of crap that emanates from the mouths of self righteous feminists/commentators claiming the downturn of Janet Jackson's career in the wake of the Superbowl scandal was a result of Sexism and Racism. This conveniently ignores the fact Jackson was over 40 and in fact, it could all be down to a good old dose of AGEISM. The majority of pop stars do struggle to maintain mainstream success beyond 40. Perhaps she is no exception and if anything, the scandal probably kept her in the public imagination and helped that following album to slightly more sales than it would have had otherwise. Having said all that, the documentary does point out the explosion of explicit onstage behavior that has now occurred in the years following. I mean who'd have thought people would be saying that a bunch of middle aged men and a woman constantly swearing while talking to a drum beat on stage, would be considered the greatest Superbowl half time entertainment of all time, as some claimed in 2022.
