the exorcism ? really with both the parents , their professions were basically just related to plot than anything else - it just seemed a bit *beep* that they happened to be a priest AND a psychologist - WHAT A COINCIDENCE
shareWell, the wife did point out that the abused often grows up to be an abuser, so it made sense that he went into the priesthood (although not a Catholic.)
shareIt was for the science v. religion aspect of it. It was too obvious for me that I rolled my eyes.
shareThe father being a priest was no coincidence to the play/movie. They apparently wanted to highlight the religious vs science perspective. What I find intriguing is that you would not have gotten the harbinger of a problem without the Thanksgiving dinner, which is highlighted by the fact that the father takes his religion seriously. The kids were consciously rejecting participation in the "religious" ritual.
