Remakes... Just stop it.
Isn't the world going through enough strife without our favourite films being remake in to shallow imitations of themselves?

shareIt was a stage musical first. Does that mean the movie should never have happened? Does that mean it should never be done again by any other cast on stage? I fail to see your logic...
Grant discovered raptor eggs in Jurassic Park
Look another plonker who didn't know Rocky Horror was based on a stage play, and that stage play is still being performed today, meaning it gets, remade, rebooted reproduced every single time.
This is just another, but for telly. I think i'll be good fun.

Doesn't sound like you've ever seen the live show.
Theses 'filmed' versions are pretty much the live show but filmed for broadcast. Each one it's own production. But if you do not wish to watch this one then don't bother, nobody for putting a gun to your head. Numptie.
Actually I've starred in the live show!
This isn't a "filmed live show", it's a pre-constructed TV movie musical. Stop repeating that lie. It's called "The Rocky Horror PICTURE Show". Richard O' Brien owns the rights to the stage musical and so this is NOT that because he's not involved at all with this production.
Does this bother me? Yes. Why? It taints the reputation of the movie for future audiences. If this is an audience's first experience with RHPS and then they see the original they'll ask things like - "Why is Frank a Man?" "Why is Dr. Scott white?" "Why isn't the Narrator dancing and not in a wheelchair?" "Why is Eddie fat?"
If this is their first impression of RHPS then God have mercy on their cursed souls.
But they race-bend in the live shows as well. Patricia Quinn was replaced by a black woman as Magenta through 1973-1974, and Frank was just recently played by an Indian guy. Also they have used multiple Narrators at once a few times before. I get that you're not looking forward to this remake, but those are silly reasons to hate on it. Considering that the live shows makes changes as well. Hell, even The Rocky Horror Picture Show made changes. Like how the songs Once in a While and Superheroes (US version) were removed, and Trixie and the phantoms are missing. Also Frank originally had blonde hair and sounded more like a drag queen, and there were no Transylvanians. There are lot more changes than that, but you get the point.
shareI don't have any issues with race-bending, I was just showing an example of what people think when they see a production in reverse order. So no I'M not hating on it for those reasons. In fact I'd hope that virgins would watch the 1975 film first, before seeing the TV version. I'd feel they'd be better off not being exposed to the TV movie as their first impression. You ever watch two adaptions of the same movie and your first experience is usually your favorite? (Say like Burton's Batman vs Nolan's Dark Knight.)
And of course RHPS made changes from the stage version, even the UK/US edits. Every film adaption does that. Trixie worked best in a stage setting. Richard O'Brien originally planned to play Eddie, (Paddy O'Hagan was average size) so we only know an overweight Eddie from Meat Loaf's later incarnation. People who grew up on "Grease" the movie would probably freak to see the original stage production! I was in a production of "The Wizard of Oz" MANY years ago, the St. Louis Municipal Opera stage version. We knew we had to "pander" a bit to the film's fans so we tweaked it a bit and added a scene with Miss Gulch at the beginning and used the Wizard's balloon instead of a rocket ship.
Mostly I regret this version is being made because A) It's being made and 2) A woman cast as Frank. I would have no issue with a cable station airing a live (or pre-recorded) version of the stage musical. Thankfully I have the 2006 Tribute Show and the 2015 David Bedella version on dvd. I will watch this, through my fingers, basically for Tim Curry whom I adore. I will then wash my eyes and ears out with a viewing of the original on blu-ray!
If I could go back in time, I would travel to 1973 London and watch the original Rocky Horror Show on stage. Anyways, I could understand if people are not interested in this remake. I just don't think it deserves this much hate. To me, it's more of another tribute than an actual legit remake. It's never going to replace the "original". Hell, they still play The Rock Horror Picture Show in one of the theaters here in New Orleans where I live. Something that the remake can't do.
shareSome people just forget to have a bit of fun.
And most of the hate comes from jealously, maybe they feel being broadcast on a prime time network with a new modern popular cast it somehow 'selling out' the original. It's Rocky for a new generation.
At the end of the day, if you go to various Rocky love shows with all their different casts and variation this telly version isn't and shouldn't be any different, there's no reason to be against it because there are so many Rocky Horror products and productions.
Remember the video game? that was weird.
"jealously"? You use that word, I do not think it means what you think it means.
How would someone be "jealous" of a program like this? Unless I was planning on staging my own show on the CW?!
But you bring up a good point, RHPS or RHS doesn't belong on a broadcast network where they will have to cut words and scenes. A censored RHPS is kind of pointless in my opinion. That's why we have cable networks!
Why else would be be acting as if you've have an allergic reaction to a tv special? which is in fact a very trivial thing, something people will tune into, watch, maybe enjoy and then never see it ever again.
It's purely down to jealousy, because people will be enjoying themselves and you can't or won't be. Just don't watch it, why spoil it for those everyone else.
"Just because i don't like it and because i disapprove of it, how dare other people have fun and like something i don't "
the problem is not that it is being remade, the problem is how bad the quality looks.
it feels like it is being done by the people that do Vampire Dairies or something like that, over stylized and with no real substance. their costumes look like they got them at a cheap halloween store and dont feel like REAL clothing for example.
The wigs feel like halloween wigs and not real hair. everything feels superficial and fake.
everything feels superficial and fake.
They wasted 20 million on this?
Why?
What other classics can we take a crap on?
I just saw in regards to remakes an article that Australian movie classic "Picnic at Hanging Rock" is going to be remade. I think Hollywood is running out of ideas and doing endless remakes.
I see there is a sequel to The Blair Witch Project. :/
