Eh...felt like it was a miss.

I get it, it's hip to try and recapture success from older gems. But this, it missed the mark. Even if I didn't love the original or even knew what the original was this came off as a mess. The decent part was the opening. The time warp was decimated into a satire of the original trying so hard to recapture the essence of the original freak show but turned into a glittery, hipster cluster *beep* And the guy playing riff raff tried too hard and his performance was off putting and uncomfortable to watch. Hell the same can be said about the majority of the cast. The costuming was awful, the sets were meh and the acting and singing were all over the place. We didn't need an updated, water downed network friendly version of The Rocky Horror picture Show. I would've probably been fine if they just done the original version with the new cast, because that's how it is with various play versions. But no Hollywood suits and fox felt like we needed this version. And instead of an interesting new take we get this wanna be hipster, lady Gaga and Sia wigs, glittery glam fest of crap with poor acting and poor casting. This version takes itself too serious and tries too hard and ends up looking like a huge joke. It loses the charm and the sexual confusion and struggle and awakening the original conveyed. I'm disappointed and feel like watching the original now on repeat for days to help erase this remake from my memory. I do appreciate the effort though....I guess.

Logo played the original a week or so before Fox's version so I got to re-acquaint myself to it before watching the new. Guess I should have waited until after this one. From the I was disappointed at the beginning with remake of the opening song, and got worse as time went on. I actually fell asleep in the middle of the movie. Fortunately I have it recorded so I'll force myself to watch it again from where I left off.

Perhaps if they hadn't tried copying every aspect of the original it might have worked. Or, better yet, if they had made a motion picture for a mature audience in the theaters, or even a cable TV version instead of family-friendly, network television. It just wasn't what I wanted. Once again we see it's better not to re-make a classic.

Laverne Cox was okay for Frank. She is transgender so why not? Some think Adam Lambert should have been Frank, but I disagree. I didn't like him as Eddie either. Adam should have played Riff-Raff. He would have had a more major role and would have given the songs a better feel.

I should have recorded the original when Logo showed it. Now I'll have to wait until they or another outlet brings it back so I can get this new one out of my head.
