'Filmed' at Casa Loma Castle in Toronto

The irony of how cheap and stagey this movie looks is delicious considering it was 'filmed' inside a real castle - Casa Loma in Toronto (X-Men and a bunch of other movies have shot there too). And at Pinewood Studios Toronto.

The 1975 RHPS was filmed at Oakley Court mansion outside of London, but the ballroom and lab were shot at the adjacent Bray Studios where many of the Hammer Horror films were shot.

This exemplifies the power of shooting on 35mm film with good lighting vs digital cameras and lousy soap opera lighting. The 1975 version was shot by Peter Suschitzky who also shot Empire Strikes Back.

But the really cool thing is I can SEE Casa Loma from my home! It's just up the hill from where I've lived for 30 years.

The beautiful Casa Loma, and Toronto actress Jane Eastwood,is in it.I liked the orginal Brad and Janet and liked Tim Curry way better as the transvestite,as Laverne is a full sex change, and its not the same.

Thanks. How about the theater exterior? Was that built on a set? There was a theater in Pittsburgh that had a castle exterior, but nothing like this. It's where I saw Rocky.

reply

The theatre exterior and most of the interior sets are Casa Loma.
