I watched it from the proper perspective and ENJOYED IT!

I don't know how many of you have cable subscriptions, but on my service I was able to watch a "making of" trailer On Demand prior to the broadcast. (Maybe it is also available online?)

They made it clear that this wasn't a "remake," but rather the ultimate tribute. I think if more people would have gone into it with that understanding, they could have enjoyed it much more.

I agree. I enjoy remakes to begin with. I dony want to see copies of originals, if I wanted that I would just watch originals. I like the idea of taking a great movie and modernizing it for the new generation. My ten year old daughter never saw the original so she was watching this with fresh eyes and she enjoyed it.

reply

That's the main problem, really. The fact that it was made safe for children.

reply

Nothing particularly ultimate about it. Ultimate is going to see a midnight showing at a theater, with the props and responses. This was basically a sanitized kidzbop version. Sad.

reply

Well, it was ultimate from their personal perspective. And you have to remember, this is one of those Fox musicals. Maybe just enjoy it in the spirit it was intended? People who love the movie and wanted to celebrate it?

reply

I'm sorry, but it just felt like a Disney/Nickelodeon version. It felt too safe, too clean. And that's really not what RHPS should be.

reply

I didn't expect it to be just like the original so I rather enjoyed it. For me, it was always about the music. Besides, this was made for network TV. Everyone who is complaining about how sanitized it was seems to have forgotten that. But look at what made it on air in 2016: same sex kissing, sex between a transgender woman and a straight male and woman. I think the greatest part of RHPS was always the message that it's OK to be different, no matter what that means. I think that message remained in this version.

reply

Yes, I know that it was made for network TV, hence the more family-friendly version. In my opinion, when you scrub it up for general audiences on network TV, you've ruined it. But the thing is, I don't really see a need for a cleaner version of the RHPS. Especially when the original is still being regularly shown at midnight all over the country, complete with the props and the responses.

reply

I believe the only proper perspective to watch it from was that of a meth head overdosing on intravenous drain cleaner.

The acting was atrocious, they ruined the songs, it was overly dumbed down, and I felt so sad for Tim Curry. It looked like he was way too heavily sedated and had no clue where he was or what he was doing...

reply

If this was supposed to be a tribute then Glee did a better job at it then this rubbish.

reply

Yes, they really should have been more clear in their marketing pitch. I'm sure I just read an interview somewhere with Laverne Cox and she called it a "remake". It's been called a "remake" by everyone. My guess is The Powers That Be started calling it a "tribute" after they realized how disastrous it was going to be as a "remake".

reply

It wouldn't surprise me that they tried to back track and cover remake with "tribute" lol. I still think Glee did a better job.
