The main thing

One of the main things I hated about this version was Frank N Furter. The role is supposed to be a man dressed as a woman. Hence the transvestite from Transylvania. I could care less that they made the role black but why a woman? Kills the whole movie.

I must concur. Totally ruined the show. Not Richard O'Brian's concept at all. Frank-N-Furter was a Transvestite, NOT Transgender. It made it impossible to deliver the impact of the original story.

Up until the moment when Frank came out I was pretty excited. I saw the stage production in L.A. and was completely blown away. When Tim Curry strutted out and down the runway the whole room gasped. By the time we caught our breath, he held us in the palm of his hand. The show's main appeal was the music first, costumes second, and story third. Everyone sang their butt's off, and the band was comprised of some of the best musicians around. When the movie came out I was looking forward to having a similar experience. I had bought the cast album and had been listening to it regularly. I was probably one of a handful that was disappointed with the movie. Although Tim Curry was just as great as ever and many of the other cast members were in it, I didn't care for Brad and Janet. I realize the director went with actors rather than singers which is often the case when musicals are filmed. I have come to be more appreciative of the first film but dare I say here we go again. I was so surprised by the choice for Frank I stopped watching and came here to see what others thought. I'm glad I'm not alone. I had such high hopes when I saw Kenny Ortega was involved. I really wanted it to be a musical as originally conceived. I don't think I'll ever understand the choice for the main character. As disappointed as I am about the her lack of vocal ability, I'm thoroughly confused about it not being a man. Oh well, I'll go finish watching it now that I've accepted it isn't going to be anything special.
