Misses the point

This remake just misses the point.

It just fails to capture the zeitgeist of 1975. The music and counterculture of psychedelic sixties (66-73)had just burned out. The punk rock scene was coming into it's own. The scourge of disco had not yet over-saturated popular music. It was pre Star Wars technical effects revolution.

This film, unfortunately captures none of that feel or energy.

I guess you just had to have been there and lived through it.

It didn't add anything to the conversation. Nothing about this movie felt subversive, it was barely even naughty.

I am the sod-off shotgun.

I don't mind changing some things to fit this generation as most of teh horror and sci0fi in teh original were of movies and shows of the '30-'70 and it didn't do anything to fit now as no one understands who "Steve Reeves" is.Also it was just trying to imitate it which didn't work and the music also sounded cheesy and tone down.

Its like watching the "Psycho" remake where its the same and it felt out of place.

Well-said! The original is timeless. Why mess with perfection?

The original has a playfulness that is raw, dirty, knowing and edgy- this version is so lacking in concept and originality that it is not only uninspiring but immensely pointless. The reason for doing a remake is to reinvent and find a way to keep something fresh and relevant. Whoever was responsible for this version took no risks and, clearly, didn't know which direction to take it. It was an expensive throwaway nothingness that makes the original look even more like a masterpiece. The whole cast was taking it all so seriously- they couldn't do camp or heightened and instead illustrated their poor acting abilities by giving us some dreadful attempt at method acting. Poor Tim Curry sold his soul- I forgive him though, he's the least of the problem. I suspected this would be bad, had low expectations and it actually 'subpassed' them.
