Interesting idea for a movie. Could have been better.
I just happened to catch this one on TMN in Canada here last night. I went in expecting it to stink, and was surprised that the concept of it (that this was the real man behind 'the legend' and that the stories behind the labours were actually highly fictionalized and embellished) was actually a good one. I liked how Herc had a band of mercenary pals who helped sell his legend. And the band had good chemistry and was well-cast.
I think the issues with the film are that of editing. This thing feels like it was hacked to shreds. I think there were probably a lot of scenes left on the cutting room floor that would have fleshed out some of the relationships and backstories.
This whole endeavour felt very rushed. I think if it had been paced better it actually could've been a really good movie.
As it stands: Missed opportunity.
